Our Story

Ribbonwood Cottages is a place of connection, care and country values. It is inspired, driven and owned by the people of West Otago to ensure out elderly people stay in the community that they know and love.

Your place to call home

Ribbonwood Cottages are located next to West Otago Health, an integrated facility that includes the Medical Centre, Ribbonwood Country Home, and District Nursing. The Cottages are perfect if you want to live independently yet need a little more support at home.

It is also a great option for a couple whose individual needs may be different, with one person being in the rest home and other remaining close by in the cottage.

Each Cottage has one-bedroom, large open plan kitchen and living area, plus bathroom with easily accessible shower. Recently renovated, the furnishings include carpet, curtains or blinds, heat pump, refrigerator, washing machine and dryer.

Beyond this, you bring your own furniture and are encouraged to make this your own with photographs, artwork, ornaments, etc. You may also bring your car, however, there is no covered garages.

The Cottages also have a beautiful outdoor seating area overlooking our beautiful rural landscape and Blue Mountains.

Supported Living

Your daily rental includes:

The cottage, fridge, washing machine and soft furnishings
Daily homecooked midday meal (2 course)
Electricity (including heating costs)
Weekly rubbish removal
6monthly window cleaning
Emergency nurse call system which is linked to the Medical Centre and Ribbonwood.

You are also welcome to join in with Ribbonwood’s organised activities, outings, church services and happy hour.

Various community members and groups drop in to provide entertainment and performances throughout the year.

Beyond this, you continue to live your daily life including, but not limited to:

Groceries (breakfast and evening meal)
Doctor visits, out of town appointments, pharmacy prescriptions, etc.
A hairdresser also visits Ribbonwood every six weeks and you are welcome to schedule an appointment
Insurance for your personal possessions (this is not covered by West Otago Health insurance).

Financial commitment

The daily rental fee is (including GST):

Single occupancy $64per day (subject to change)

Double Occupancy rate available upon request

Benefits available

If you require financial assistance, please contact WINZ for advice. You may be entitled to an Accommodation Allowance, Disability Allowance, and living alone allowance.

Home Help

If you require assistance with housework, bed making, bathing, etc. please arrange this yourself, or you can be assessed by a Needs Assessor for eligibility. Please note, you will need to be referred by your GP. You may be eligible for reduced or free services.
