Community Nursing
West Otago Health is contracted by the Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora and Accident Compensation Corporation to provide access to nursing services for those who require short term assistance while recovering from injury, illness and/or a hospital stay. Support to those with an on-going chronic health condition is also provided.
Community Nursing Services Include:
District Nurse
Our District Nurse provides a specialised nursing service to patients in their own home to support recuperation from a hospital stay or accident. Services are also provided to those who have a chronic health condition(s) who can be supported in a community setting.
Meals on Wheels
Meals on Wheels are available to those who have recently been discharged from hospital and require short-term assistance (up to 6 weeks) with meals. Meals on Wheels are also available to those who because of personal health needs require ongoing assistance with meals.
Physiotherapy
Provided to support recuperation from a hospital stay or medical event.
Occupational Therapy
Provided to support recuperation from a hospital stay or medical event.
Speech Language Therapy
Provided to support recuperation from a hospital stay or medical event.
Accessing Services
Service users must be referred to the service by a health professional. Upon receipt of a referral an assessment will be completed against a criteria to determine if a service user will be accepted for the service.
