Aged Residential Care in the heart of West Otago

'Your place to call home'

Our Story

Ribbonwood Country Home and Ribbonwood Cottages are a place of connection, care and country values. It is inspired, driven and owned by the people of West Otago to ensure our elderly people stay in the community they know and love. This is a community with heart, and we welcome you to join us.

“It’s the personal care. They just care so much, the staff. It makes a huge difference.”

Your place to call home

Ribbonwood is an architecturally designed and built care home. It’s modern, light yet homely and welcomes in the idyllic rural views of the Blue Mountains, golf course and farmland.

Offering spacious superior rooms with own ensuite for your comfort and privacy. Your room is fully furnished with a hospital bed, TV, chested drawer, armchair, bedside table and large built-in wardrobe.

The bathroom has a wet floor shower, hand basin and toilet with strategically placed grab bars. Emergency call buttons throughout.

We encourage you to bring your own things and make this your home to enjoy.

There are a variety of living areas, quiet spaces, activity rooms, vegetable plots, and a safe outdoor walking circle for you to enjoy.

“We work in their home, they do not live in our workspace. This has been the ethos from the start.”

– Board Chairperson

Genuine connection & company

Ribbonwood offers genuine connection and company for you through daily interactions with other residents and our friendly care team. There are lovely spaces to sit for when your own family and friends visits in either your own room or around the home.

Community members and groups also often drop by and are involved in activities, performances or doing the garden.

“It’s the company that I like about being here.

Personalised Medical Care

Ribbonwood Country Home is a small residential aged care home located in Tapanui, West Otago. We provide hospital, rest home, palliative, and respite or short stay, levels of care.

Our expert and dedicated team of medical and care staff take the time to get to know you and your family. We work with you to ensure you receive personalised and supportive care based on your needs and wants now and into the future.

Given the small nature of our home and being located in the same building as our medical centre, we can intervene early if we notice changes.

Plus, you’ll enjoy nutritious and delicious home cooking, diversional therapy, and a variety of activities or outings.

We also know it’s the small but important things that matter. Like how you like your tea, what your interests are, and ensure you have some fun in your day!

Who pays for your care?

Your care is either paid for by the Government as a Residential Care Subsidy or by yourself as a Private Paying Resident.

Applying for a residential care subsidy

If your needs assessment shows you need long-term residential care, your needs assessor will give you the Residential Care Subsidy application forms.

These forms need to be filled in and sent to Work and Income NZ promptly for a financial means assessment to see if you qualify for the subsidy.

The Financial Means Assessment

If the financial means assessment shows that your assets are below the defined asset threshold:

  • You qualify for government funding through the Residential Care Subsidy

  • Work and Income will then assess your income and tell you how much of this you need to pay towards the cost of your care. This will include most of your New Zealand Superannuation and any other income you receive

If the financial means assessment shows that your assets are above the defined asset threshold:

  • You do not qualify for the Residential Care Subsidy

  • You pay the cost of rest home care up to the maximum contribution for our area

  • You may qualify for a residential care loan. You can apply for this through Work and Income NZ.
